Balloon penguin


Materials: three balloons; an air pump; a permanent marker and scissors.

Inflate a white balloon leaving a three—inch flat tail (Pic 1).

The first three bubbles you twist to make cheeks and eyes of the penguin. Twist the first five—inch bubble (Pic 2).

Lock both ends of the first bubble in one lock twist (Pic 3). This step is marked with arrows between points A and B on the scheme 1.

Twist the second five—inch bubble (Pic 4).

Lock both ends of the second bubble in one lock twist (Pic 5). This step is marked with arrows between points B and C on the scheme 1.

Twist the third five—inch bubble (Pic 6).

Lock both ends of the third bubble in one lock twist (Pic 7). This step is marked with arrows between points C and D on the scheme 1.

Twist the 4th five—inch bubble (Pic 8).

Twist the fifth six—inch bubble (Pic 9).

Lock both ends of the fifth bubble in one lock twist (Pic 10). This step is marked with arrows between points E and F on the scheme 1.

Twist the sixth six—inch bubble (Pic 11).

Lock both ends of the sixth bubble in one lock twist (Pic 12). This step is marked with arrows between points F and G on the scheme 1. The rest of the balloon is the seventh bubble. It’s the tail.

Inflate a black balloon leaving a three—inch flat tail (Pic 13).

Twist the first five—inch bubble (Pic 14). It’s a wing.

Twist the second nine—inch bubble (Pic 15).

Lock both ends of the second bubble in one lock twist (Pic 16). This step is marked with the arrows between points A and B on the scheme 2. It’s a part of the head.

Twist the third six—inch bubble (Pic 17).

Twist the fourth six—inch bubble (Pic 18).

Lock both ends of the chain of the last two (the third and the fourth) bubbles in one lock twist (Pic 19). This step is marked with arrows between points B and D on the scheme 2.

Twist the fifth five—inch bubble (Pic 20). It’s the second wing. The rest of the balloon is the sixth bubble.

Cut off the sixth bubble and tie off the end (Pic 21).

Lock the second bubble of the black balloon with the first three bubbles of the white balloon (Pic 22 and 23).


Force the first bubble of the white balloon half way through the loop of the second bubble of the black balloon (Pic 24 and 25).


Lock the fourth bubble of the white balloon between the third and the fourth bubbles of the black balloon (Point C on the scheme 2). Roll the third and the fourth bubbles of the black balloon around the fourth bubble of the white balloon as you do to make the bird fold/ twist (Pic 26). 

Use a red or an orange balloon to make the beak. Inflate the red balloon and tie off one two—inch bubble. Cut off the rest of the balloon (Pic 27).

Attach the red bubble between the head and the body of the penguin (Pic 28 and 29). You have made the beak.


Use the permanent marker to draw the face (Pic 30). Congratulations, you have made the penguin.
